Does the field of occupational therapy involve blood?

Does the field of occupational therapy involve blood? Any OT's out there know if the field and training of it requires dealing with blood that includes all labs and the actual career itself. I am a diabetic and have to prick my finger occasionally which is why im scared. Please help. Serious replies only as i am nervous. Thanks.

  1. OT is similar to physical therapy. There are occasions when the patient may have a wound of some kind, but OT are generally requested to do any thing about them. At some hospitals PT are the ones that do dressing changes.
  2. Unless there is an accident (pt cuts self, a dressing falls off, etc), you typically don't come in contact with blood. You may come in contact with other bodily fluids -I have had urine on me and saliva, so in any case you may come in contact with fluids you should always where gloves.
